"Always Trust Your Feeling." Really?

"Always Trust Your Feeling?"  This dictum sounds familiar and appealing. It is often used by my colleagues to address the students who consumes without any thought analysis. It sounds wise, thus the popularity. However, the reality is nuanced and misleading. This article discusses why the dictum is appealing and explores to interrupt the assumptions that frame the popularity of the dictum. Why does this dictum sounds fascinating?  The combination of "trust," "your," and "feeling" powerfully blends to tap into appealing aspect of human psychology and experiences. It can be safe to assert that it is powerful enough to hijack our rational self. "Trust your feeling" offers us utterly unique reason that equivocally sound reasonable to justify our feeling and actions. How can public servants escape antagonistic role?

Exclude few exceptional, self-less and top notched public servants, many of the public servants have taken antagonistic role. "Antagonistic role" is a grave description to describe any public servant without well founded justification. Anyone using this phrase, including myself, could run into turbulence of criticism and public hatred. After neatly weighing all possible outcomes of post, I choose to publish this.

How public servants have assumed antagonistic role?
In rendering our services, rather than orchestrating the confrontation of impediments to progress, we have made ourselves the impediments of progress. The vicious art of impediments have been crafted in manners described below. 
1. Publicity and popularity seeking has became the top priority over efficiency of service delivery because of which we deliver third class service and write first class report.
2. Promotion to higher grade is more important than production. For this reason, farm production report is more than the amount harvested by farmers.
3. We are more concerned about our IWP score compared to common output. In doing so, we have many poorly performing students under IWP-wise excellent teachers and flower gardens get better attention than the patients.
4. Going on tour to earn is far more important than go on tour to learn. That is why we have people going around the world but doing the same thing in office. We have not escaped that vicious cycle.
5. Integrity and dedication are only for self praise and lip services. It is because of this that we have public servants in archery field, bars, and homes before office hours are over.
6. There is absolute craving and showcasing of power in many public institution. So, we have constantly compromised the efficiency and quality of service delivery while showing how powerful we are.
7. Spending budget is more important than making meaningful investment. That is why we have spent millions of Ngultrums with negligible return of investment. No wonder, there is always mad rush to spend all the budget before financial closing (during so called June closing).

The list could go on but the heat is too high and I better know my limit and limitations. Given such expedient nature of service delivery, what other phrase(es) can be more apt than "antagonistic role" to describe ourselves?
However, what is more important than finding better description is how to overcome and escape this role? How can we enhance service delivery?, in simple sense. The great thing about answer to this question is, it is not difficult. The answer lies in individual mindset and choices we make everyday.
1. Choose efficiency over publicity. Deliver first class service and write first class report.
2. Strive to produce result before rushing for promotion. 
3. Take care of quality of service before fighting for IWP score. 
4. Go on tour to learn not just to earn. 
5. Choose to be in office not in archery fields and bars. Even your home is not the best place to be during office hours.
6. Showing prowess is better than showing power in office. 
7. Be wise enough to make meaningful investment when you have power to spend pubic budget. 
This too I could go on but I made my choice to know my limits because when I wrote "answer lies in individual mindset and choices we make everyday," the statement suffice many things I might have said. 
I have no authority and obligations to write this, but sometimes our limitations are too much and concerns are too high that it has to be shaken and shredded off this way. This, in a sense, is a cold war against complacency and inefficiency.
